KRQR 1994 Bammies Awards Broadcast

The 1994 Bay Area Music Awards were broadcast live by KRQR (now Alice@97.3, KLLC) on March 5th, 1994. KRQR carried them for several years and it was always a lot of work and a lot of fun. As was usual with a CBS remote, we always took way too much equipment. Also, one of the requirements was that the radio personnel had to wear tuxedos so Shingo Kamada, Andy Ellis and I would go to the rental place and end up as the best dressed trio of engineers in San Francisco radio.

The winners that year were.... Album: “San Francisco Days,” Chris Isaak. Debut album: “August and Everything After,” Counting Crows. Independent album: “Acoustic Highway,” Craig Chaquico. Jazz album: “So Near, So Far: Musing for Miles,” Joe Henderson. Urban/contemporary album: “Sons of Soul,” Tony Toni Tone. Metal album: “Pork Soda,” Primus. Song: “What’s Up,” 4 Non Blondes. Group: Chris Isaak & Silvertone. Female vocalist: Linda Perry. Male vocalist: Sammy Hagar. Guitarist: Carlos Santana. Bassist: Les Claypool of Primus. Drummer/percussionist: Kenny Dale Johnson of Chris Isaak & Silvertone. Keyboardist/synthesist: Booker T. Jones. Reeds/brass: Neil Young. Bay Area musician of the year: Neil Young. Bay Area club band of the year: Tommy Castro Band. Arthur M. Sohcot Award: Sammy Hagar. Bill Graham Lifetime Achievement Award: Ralph J. Gleason.

Wow. "San Francisco Days" by Chris Isaak, one of my favorite albums and "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes, one of my all time favorite songs. Got to meet them too.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the evening
