KCBS Transmitter

This is our primary back up transmitter. It is a Gates (Harris) MW50. It was installed in 1976 and was our main transmitter until 1990, when the DX50 was installed. The MW50 uses four tubes. It also uses what is called PDM or Pulse Duration Modulation, don't ask. It's a long explanation. We run this transmitter once a week to keep it healthy in case of a failure in the DX50. To the extreme right you can see a part of the 10,000 watt back up to the back up transmitter. It is a Continental 316B and was installed in 1959 as a back-up to the old GE BT-25-A.
