Andy Ellis is Assistant Technical Supervisor for KCBS and KLLC. After earning a 1972 Stanford University B.A. in Communications, he started as a desk assistant at KCBS, making coffee and producing traffic reports starting at 2 A.M.
Though trained in journalism, Andy had always loved electronics. In 1976 he swapped hobby and profession, moving from the KCBS News to Engineering.
Since then, Andy has engineered numerous CBS remote broadcasts, including two Superbowls. He returned home from a freezing week at Superbowl XVI, having missed a quarter of his month-old son's life.
Andy's greatest professional interests are designing analog and digital control systems. He has conceived, built and installed numerous pieces of custom equipment for the CBS stations and various CBS Radio networks.
He's a fan of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and uses it to produce drawings of his creations. Andy is the author of numerous broadcast technical journal articles.
He serves as a member of the FCC/FEMA Primary Entry Point Advisory Committee (PEPAC), which handles Presidential access to the Emergency Alert System (EAS). He holds a Senior AM/FM Engineer certificate from the Society of Broadcast Engineers and a Certificate in Business Data Processing (awarded with Distinction) from U.C. Berkeley Extension.
